White Hollywood, Please Stop Talking. You Are Losing Your Shit

Okay. I’m pissed. I’m enraged. I’m basically ready for war. It has become quite evident this week that white people in Hollywood and beyond are woefully unable to comprehend how debilitating it has been listening to the pure nonsense spewing from all corners of the globe.

Almost all of it is pure shit. You read it, listen to it, and then conclude that this isn’t necessarily a shocking revelation. Why would we expect anything less from privileged white celebrities who have no clue what it takes to manage a life under the prejudiced glare of random strangers. Or even people you think you know well.

Until…a boycott is proposed.

Then, the true colors finally douse your vision. It’s very bright, almost blinding but as much as you want to look away — you can’t because the power of the frequency is both jolting and necessary.

It’s the truth.

Truth: French Actress Julie Delpy, who I used to admire and adore, and now I hate with a vengeance — actually made this statement to entertainment biz pub TheWrap. Don’t look away! Read it and take it all in:

“Two years ago. I said something about the Academy being very white male, which is the reality, and I was slashed to pieces by the media”. “It’s funny — women can’t talk. I sometimes which I were African American because people don’t bash them”.

Interesting. She then concludes by declaring that “It’s hardest to be a woman. Feminists is something people hate above all. Nothing worse than being a woman in this business. I really believe that”.

That’s interesting Ms. Delpy. You must not be familiar with the way it works in the United States. You see, white actresses actually have careers that rival the “white males” that scare you so much.

Let me put is this way. Being a white woman has never been the most challenging thing in the world. Far from it. Even the most basic white female gets tons more respect than a black woman who is educated and well spoken not to mention gorgeous (well, that’s a given).

But, when you venture into Hollywood — the value of white women increases substantially regardless of talent or experience. And if they have both — its basically a wrap. They will work forever — even beyond the grave.

I challenge any white actress working today to match their career trajectory against their black counterparts. I am pretty sure the results will vividly display the fact that black women — no matter how talented, hardworking or ambitious they are — have a considerably harder time cloning the graphs of Cate Blanchett, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain, Susan Sarandon, Rachel McAdams, Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence or Julie Delpy.

Shall I go on?

Almost all of the women mentioned have been nominated more than twice in during their either established or still unfolding careers.

Obviously there is no long list of black actresses that can boast of such an honor and that is because Hollywood is seeped in systematic racism and apparently so are many of the white elite who have benefited from this very destructive practice.

Then, there is the part about how being a feminist can be the heaviest cross to bear when you are surrounded by men who don’t give a crap about women and their rights. Again, Ms. Delpy — you have put your big foot in your mouth.

Actually the worst thing about being a feminist in Hollywood is being a white feminist, who has no desire or natural tendency to support women of color in the same industry — who are constantly facing the bigoted ire of the white males that you referenced.

But Ms. Delpy is not alone. Her counterparts here in America are too busy complaining about their lousy pay and the fact that after enjoying the period of being the designated ingenue — they are now getting too old to play opposite the likes of Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.

That is their version of sexism. Sigh.

I could try to laugh that off but I’m too annoyed to let it out.

There is plenty more to get into but I won’t. What’s the point? Well, I regress. I do have a point.

Please shut up. Please White Hollywood. No more talking.

Let’s just observe a moment, a day, a week, or even a month of silence. Enough said.
